Reserch on John Virtue
john virtue is a british monochrome landscape painter from Accrington who was born in 1947. he studied education was in slade school of fine art (1695-1969). I like john virtues art because he turns grand torist attractions ( playgrounds for the rich) in to war zones of self discrtion and muliulation.
I have chosion thease pictures because i like how it shows him working in progress and and compleating some of my faviort pices by him .
I like his artwork because its a very monochrome post apocypitic feel, i also like how he has made it messy and foggy feeling in such a dark, depressing way.
Research on Jason Taylor
Jason deCaires Taylor is an english sculptor from Europe who was born in 1974 on August 12th, He specialisis in contemporary underwater sculptures whitch over time mutated beautfuily in to artificial coral reef statues.
I have personaly chosen this artist because of his ungie sculptes and the way the underwater takes effect on them
i have also chosen this artist becausse i love how his photos capture the shades of water under the sea
they all intriges me to make my distopia to be the common atlantas ( persfect city) utopia but dytoryed and drouwnd away.
My final pice
Below you can see the top two pictures , one of my photo motage ( a collage made from diffrent photos from photograthy , magazzens ans the internet. and my paint pallet with a mixtures of greens ,purples and blues i was debateing on uesing. before painting i was testing all the diffrent methods i chould have uesd and clouors
Hear is progress shots of my final pice that i have basied on a mixture of John.V and Jason.T Artwork.
but with my own touchs, i wanted to basie my distopia on a utoipa gone bad, and so i took antlantas. most of the movies of atalanstas are where the city is a magical underwater utopia but my virsion is where this beautfuil utopia dies from water and becomes an underwater distopia of dark and forgotton memorys. where the only life is clam emotionless sea life of the deep.
something spehical i have managed to do with my final pice is just like being underwater in diffrent lights, diffrent things become loomnus, hear are a few progress exsapmes, underthe is the painting in dull acrage yellow lights, but the painting on the right is under pure white lights, the neon effect also works when outside.
so far i like the foggy effect it has near each building but i am still debateing about the seaweeds cloure
At first we had to reserch diffrent distopia books and movies to get an idea of what types of distopia there where, one of the books that caught my eye was bioshock, i like the hole idea of a utopia crashing down to its worst , it was very inspireing and the book was amzeing too. after we did our first set of reaserch we did the second set on brutlisit buildings, mostly set within london, one of the buildings i chose was one in camdam town that inspided a few of my building in my painting. afyer this we did some reaserch on two artist as shown, one chosen by our leacura and the other of our choice, i chose John.V and Jason.T because i belvied if i was to mix there styles to gether (metaforicly) it whould be beautfuil and thats what i tried. after we got all the reaserch done we had to gather lots of diffrent images from diffrent reasorces to make a semi realistic distpoian city collage on A2 paper as a refreance for my final painting. after we tryed out meany diffrent paint clouers and pattens to finaly be able to do my final pice.
all in all i love how my painting looks in diffrent lights but i wish i chould have had more time to do diffrent things and exprement more/
